Su Lee is a South Korean musician, visual artist and podcaster. Working mainly from her small bedroom in the suburbs of Seoul, Lee achieved viral fame in 2020 with her song "I'll Just Dance."[1]

Early life[edit]

Lee grew up mostly in South Korea, learning both English and Korean from an early age. She also spent some of her childhood in Boston.[1] As a child, she was classically trained in the cello.[1] After graduating high school in South Korea, she briefly studied international relations at a university in Seoul then studied graphic design at Falmouth University in England and undertook internships in the United Kingdom.[1] She soon became disillusioned with the constraints of professional life and returned to South Korea, moved in with her mother in the suburbs of Seoul and planned to use her savings to pursue a music career.[2][3]

Career[edit]

In May 2020, early in the COVID-19 pandemic, Lee posted a video for "I'll Just Dance" on her YouTube page. She posted the video on Reddit with the title "This is basically what my mental breakdown sounds like."[4] The video swiftly went viral, recording more than 2.5 million views on YouTube.[5] The song was featured in the 2020 Netflix film All Together Now (2020 film)|All Together Now.[6]

Also in May 2020, Lee launched her podcast, Overthinkers Society, in which Lee discusses art, music and more serious topics, including her own mental health struggles.

She is set to join Chai (band)|Chai on their North American tour in 2022.[7]
