Suchitra Sinha (born 19 September 1959) is a retired Indian Civil Servant and a social worker. She joined Bihar Administrative Services in 1988 and was later promoted to Indian Administrative Services (2006 batch) Jharkhand Cadre[1]

Early in her career when she was posted as the deputy collector of East Singhbum District (Jamshedpur), she got a chance to meet primitive and languishing Sabar tribals[2] who were living in pathetic conditions. In her capacity as a government servant, she worked towards developing their inherent skills of basket making using indigenous grass and bamboo which was sold in local markets. She undertook Project Palash (under Government of Jharkhand) and helped start an NGO Ambalika to work for the skill development of the marginalized tribals. The tribal artisans were trained in collaboration with National Institute of Fashion Technolofy -NIFT. [3] This has helped develop their skills from basic basket making to creating bamboo and grass products like coasters, lamps, folders, bags etc. and has been able to impact their livelihood. [4] The Sabar tribals in their interviews have revered and acknowledged her contribution to their lives. [5]

Post retirement, Suchitra Sinha took up the initiative of 'Palash ke Phool' to address the nutritional needs and hygiene issues of the Sabar children in Bhangat and Makula villages in Jharkhand. [6] A total of 12 villages are now included in the program.
