Sugnan[1] (born 8 Januray 1975) is an Indian cinematographer who works in the Kannada film industry. He made his debut in the feature film Mani directed by Yogaraj Bhat in the year 2001. He has since worked in over 20 films 3 television mega serials. Most recognized for his unique work in the movie Sidlingu, his hand-held style in the movies Lifeu Ishtene, Tony, Dana Kayonu, Male [2]Jayammana Maga Maayavadanu[3] I Love You[4] and Mugulu Nage have been worthy of praise.

Sugnan [5]was born on 08 January 2975 to S.C. Narayanappa and Rajamma, into a weaver’s family, in Bangalore, Karnataka. He completed his SSLC from SVN High School, Malleshwaram, Bangalore in 1990.
He was drawn to cinema when he witnessed the shooting of the movie Udbhava near his house during his SSLC exams. Starring Anant Nag and helmed by Koodlu Ramakrishna, it was his first brush with the film making process at such close quarters. This inspired him to pursue a Diploma in Cinematography course at Sri Jayachamarajendra Polytechnic, Bangalore between 1991-93.
He started his career working for a production house called Prime Images Pvt. Ltd., where he worked extensively on documentaries, news reels, daily soaps and corporate films for three years.
He debuted as a cameraman with the telefilm Nenapinangaladalli, which he also produced with his friends. Later, her freelanced as a cameraman for various daily soaps.
Sugnan [6]went on to assist Mapakshi, where he learned basic cinematography aesthetics and technical knowledge. He was also exposed to a huge collection of films, which inspired him and helped him fine tune his skills. His stint as an assistant cinematographer [7]with P. Rajan gave him the opportunity to work on films like Beladingala Baale, Hagalu Vesha and AK 47. Sugnan also worked as an associate with R. Giri, from whom he learnt the candid camera technique.
Having worked with experienced cinematographers, he can seamlessly handle filming for both TV and films with ease. He is known for his unique style and his ability is lauded by some of the leading technicians and artists in the industry.
Sugnan has had the opportunity to work with Ananth Nag, who inspired him to pursue his career in films, when he worked with him on the feature film Mellusire Savigana (2002) and the mega serial Preethi Illada Mele (2005-09).
