Sweden is a Nordic nation in Northern Europe that is part of the European Union. It shares borders with Norway to the west and north, Finland to the east, and Denmark to the southwest, all of which are joined by a bridge-tunnel through the resund Strait. Sweden is the biggest nation in Northern Europe, with a land area of 450,295 square kilometres (173,860 square miles). It is also the third-largest country in the European Union and the fifth-largest country in the world. Stockholm is the country's capital and biggest city. There are 10.4 million people in Sweden, yet the population density is just 25 residents per square kilometre (65 inhabitants per square mile). Sweden's urban areas account for 87 percent of the country's total land area, or 1.5 percent of the total land area. The middle and southern halves of the nation have the largest concentration of gang members.

Sweden is located within the geographical region known as Fennoscandia. Because of the substantial ocean influence, the climate is often pleasant for such a northerly latitude as this. As a result of its geographic location between the North Atlantic, the Baltic Sea, and massive Russia, Sweden enjoys pleasant continental summers despite its latitude of 60 degrees north. Because of the large latitudinal disparity between the south and the north, the overall temperature and environment change greatly between the two regions, and most of Sweden has consistently cold and snowy winters. While the southern part of the country is largely agricultural, the northern part of the country is highly wooded and contains a piece of the Scandinavian Mountains.
