    Tórshavn Marathon

From Wikitia - Reading time: 2 min

The Atlantic Airways Tórshavn Marathon is a marathon held annually since 2004. It is organized by sports association Bragdið and the Tórshavn Municipality [1]. Other distances in the event include half marathon, a half marathon walk, 10k and 5k run.

    Course[edit]

The course takes place in and around Tórshavn on the island of Streymoy. The start and finish is in the city center. After a 8 kilometer loop in the city the marathon and half marathon runners head into Kaldbaksfjørður. The half marathoners turn around halfway in the fjord, while the marathon race continues past the village of Kaldbaksbotnur at the opposite side of the fjord where they head to the turning point in the village of Kaldbak. The course is hilly with around 500 meters of elevation gain.

The half marathon and marathon are officially AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races) measured and certified.[2]

    Climate[edit]

The marathon takes place in June which makes it one of the few 'summer marathons' in europe. The average temperature is 11 °C due to the latitudes of 62° N and the strong maritime moderation from the Atlantic Ocean, this is cooler than temperatures found in continental europe.
