Task Force Spartan (TFS) is the U.S. Army component of Operation Spartan Shield (OSS). OSS is commanded by United States Central Command and includes units from all service branches. The TFS mission is to "maintain a U.S. military posture in Southwest Asia sufficient to strengthen our defense relationships and build partner capacity".[1] TFS was formed on or about 2011 under United States Army Central Command, Lt. Gen. Michael X. Garrett commander.[2] In 2016, command of TFS was transferred to a rotation of U.S.[Army National Guard divisions while deployed to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. TFS is comprised of United States Army, Army National Guard, and United States Army Reserve units.
