Thapan is a small village of 2482 hectares in Siwana Tehsil in Barmer district in the State of Rajasthan, India.[2] The village is administrated by a sarpanch who is elected representative of the village by the local elections. Thapan depends on BALOTRA, the nearest town for all major economic activities.[3] The village has government-provided water facilities that include Two taps, One Well supply, which is 210.46% of the total supply, Two tanks, One tubewell, and One handpump. The villagers also acquire water from some of the natural water sources - Two rivers, Two canals and Two springs. Thapan is also surrounded by Two lakes. The population of the village depends on the source of drinking water during summer on Tubewell. Thapan's pin code is 344044[4], and village code is 02158000. The area of Thapan is segregated as 337.02 hectares irrigated area, 1000.12 hectares unirrigated, the 433.16 hectare area under culturable waste (including gauchar and groves), and remaining 336.04 hectare area not available for cultivation.

Thapan has One post office (Thapan B.O) and Four public telephones. The village is connected with a single bus service. Thapan has Two banks and Two credit societies for the regulation of economic activity. The village is also equipped with Two recreational centers.

The village has an uninterrupted 24 hours electric supply from a power grid.

Demographics[edit]

Thapan is a census village in the district of Barmer, Rajasthan. The village has a total population of 3551 and has total administration over 598 houses which are connected to supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage.

  • Thapan has 685 children, 373 boys and 312 girls.
  • Scheduled caste counts for 772 (21.74%) males constitute 413 (11.63%) of the population and females 359 (10.11%).
  • Scheduled tribe counts for 611 (17.21%) males constitute 321 (9.04%) of the population and females 290 (8.17%).

The workforce is 977 male, 308 female with 799 (62.18%) of all workers being employed full-time, this includes 681 males and 118 females. 320 males and 18 females are considered as the main cultivators with the help of 176 male and 87 female agricultural labor. 486 people are reported to work for a marginal period of time in the year.

They depend on the agricultural markets (Mandi) of the nearby towns of BALOTRA and Barmer to sell agricultural produce and make their living.
