The Porter: The Untold Story at Everest is a 2020 Documentary Film following the first known American Porter (carrier) to aid a Mount Everest base camps expedition in Nepal and the living and working conditions experienced along the way.[1]
In 2019, Nathaniel James Menninger became the first known American Porter to aid a Everest base camps expedition.[1] Eating Dal bhat, working with a Tumpline namlo and speaking Nepali language|Nepali,[2] he immersed in Porter lifestyle.[3] The film follows Menninger from Kathmandu to Jiri, up through the Himalayas valley and to Mount Everest.[4] In Lukla, Menninger works with other Tamang people. The film documents the Porter experienced conditions along the way.
After its release, The Porter appeared as the feature of a CNN article. As a result, the film went viral and reached over 450,000 views.[5] The film and its issue have appeared in other major news outlets including Setopati,[6] Antena 3 (Spanish TV channel) 3 Deportes[7] and Outside (magazine)[8]
