The Theradome helmet is a medical device manufactured by Theradome Inc. It has lasers commonly used in hair growth clinics embedded in the helmet's shell.[1] Each helmet has about 80 lasers.[2] The device looks like a cross between a bicycle helmet and an Apple Inc. product.[1] Initially, the laser helmet was only FDA cleared for women, until the Food and Drug Administration cleared Theradome for use on men as well in 2018.[3]
The helmets are manufactured in Silicon Valley[1] by Theradome Inc., a private company headquartered in the same area.[3] Theradome Inc. was founded in August 2013 by Tamim Hamid PhD,[1] a former NASA scientist.[4] Theradome began in his garage.[1] He hired two employees and moved to a a TechShop workshop to develop prototypes.[1] Then, the company raised $468,152 on Indiegogo to fund manufacturing.[1]
