Troy MacDonald (born 1969) is a Canadian-born business executive who is the chairman and chief executive officer of Draft:HyFi Corp. He is also the co-founder and co-architect of the HyFi Platform, WPP Token, and HyFi Token.
Since December 2017, MacDonald has served as the chief operating officer of WPP Energy GmbH, a private Swiss renewable energy company (WPP Energy), and as the chief operating officer and the chief innovation officer beginning in 2020. He remains a key contributor and stakeholder in WPP Energy.[1]
As a chess player, he has competed in six international chess tournaments, including the Pan American Games.[2]
Troy was born in 1969 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and spent most of his life in Atlantic Canada. He received his early education from Cole Harbour High School, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. In 1991, he completed his undergraduate degree with a major in political science from Saint Mary's University (Halifax). He has also completed the Harvard Business School program on disruptive innovation strategy, MIT's program on blockchain technology and business innovation, and the London School of Economics' negotiation program. In addition, he has studied at Stanford University in the energy innovation and emerging technologies program.
He was entrepreneurial from an early age. By the age of 10, he was running three micro-businesses, concurrently with his friends and family.
In 2004, he founded The Monetary Man Inc., a Moncton-based currency dealership.[3]
In 2012, he founded another company, Gem of a Diamond, as a subsidiary of The Monetary Man Inc.[4]
In 2014, he started his third company, Investors Gold Corporation.[5]
While in his role at WPP Energy, MacDonald triumphantly procured an exclusive long term, waste-to-energy, global distribution technology license and procured unconventional water electrolysis technology known as "W2H2".
MacDonald has built large academic and scientific teams, and simultaneously established a trained global distributor/reseller network. He has created dozens of corporate partnerships and strategic alliances around the VORAX and W2H2 technologies, including those with multi-billion-dollar companies as well as large educational institutions.
MacDonald has built multiple thriving businesses in the past, across a variety of industries. He is also an internationally known numismatist, with a 44-year, two generation, history in physical currency.[3]
From 1996 to 2000, he was a national award winner for outstanding business development as a high net worth private banker for TD Canada.
In 1995, he received the National Employee of the Year Award.
