United States Stove Company is an American company, based in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. What is now known as United States Stove Company was founded in 1869 in Albany, New York. After several reorganizations, the company reincorporated in 1930.
John S. Perry started building wood stoves in 1843.[1] After becoming bankrupt in 1860, Perry secured a loan in the amount of $13,000 to buy the company in 1862. Perry reorganized the company to become Albany Stove Works in 1869. It employed nearly 1,200 people in the Albany region.[2]
John Hamilton Inman, a local coal landowner in the Sequatchie Valley and investor in the Tennessee Coal, Iron and Railroad Company, encouraged Albany Stove Works to move its headquarters to South Pittsburg, Tennessee. In June of 1886, what was called a “mammoth stove foundry” was built in South Pittsburg along the banks of the Tennessee River.[3] More than 500 men were hired to work in what then became known as the Perry Stove Manufacturing Company. The company faced a difficult start almost immediately upon opening. In June of 1888, the factory was nearly destroyed by fire. Months later, a boiler explosion killed six men.[4] Just two years after opening, Perry chose to reorganize the company. File:S.L.Rogers.jpg|thumb|S.L. Rogers
In 1994, U.S. Stove acquired Clayton Manufacturing followed by Jensen Manufacturing in 1996. The company acquired Vogelzang International in 2012, and Breckwell.[5]
