The Institution of Colorado Boulder is a public research university that may be referred to as CU Boulder, CU, or Colorado. It is located in Boulder, Colorado. The University of Colorado in Boulder is the primary campus of the University of Colorado system. The University of Colorado at Boulder is recognised as an R1: Doctoral University with Very High Research Activity and is a member of the Association of American Institutions, which is an exclusive association comprised of the most prestigious research universities in North America. According to the National Science Foundation, the institution ranked 50th in the country in terms of its spending on research and development in 2021, spending $536 million on research and development while receiving assistance for nearly $634 million in research.
As of January 2022, the institution will have more than 35,000 students enrolled throughout its nine colleges and schools, in addition to providing more than 150 different academic programmes.

The University of Colorado Buffaloes are members of the NCAA Division I Pac-12 Conference and participate in 17 different varsity sports. The University of Colorado has won a total of 28 national championships in a variety of sports, including 20 in skiing, seven in men's and women's cross country combined, and one in football. The university's alumni have won ten medals at the Olympic level. Each year, more than one thousand students take part in one of the more than 34 intercollegiate club sports.
