The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, or UNLV for short, is a public land-grant research university that can be found in Paradise, Nevada. The Las Vegas Strip is about 2.6 kilometres to the east of the campus, which has a total area of 332-acres (134 hectares). Between the years 1957 and 1969, it was a component of the University of Nevada system. It encompasses the Shadow Lane Campus, which is located immediately to the east of the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada and is home to both the School of Medicine and the School of Dental Medicine. The only institution of its kind in Nevada is the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).

UNLV was ranked 165th in the country for its research and development spending in 2018, according to the National Science Foundation, which found that the university had invested $83 million.
