University of Reading

The Institution of Reading is a public research university in the English town of Reading in the county of Berkshire. It was established in 1892 as University College, Reading, as an extension college of the University of Oxford. A royal charter from King George V granted the college the authority to offer its own degrees in 1926, and it was the only university in the world to gain such a charter between the two world wars. The institution is often referred to as a red brick university, which reflects the fact that it was established in the nineteenth century.

There are four main campuses in Reading. Across the pond in the United Kingdom, the campuses on London Road and Whiteknights are located in the town of Reading, while Greenlands is located on the banks of the River Thames in the county of Buckinghamshire. It also has a campus in the Malaysian city of Iskandar Puteri. Since 2016, the institution has been divided into 16 academic schools, each with its own faculty. Annual income for the university in 2016–17 was £275.3 million, of that which £35.4 million came from research grants and contracts. Annual spending for the institution was £297.7 million, with an income of £275.3 million.
