V Raja Ram Mohan Rao^[1] (born 1946) is an Indian author who predominantly works in Telugu. Currently living in Hyderabad, he has penned 23 novels and more than 330 short stories. He had written and dedicated a few works to his pen name "Aarthi". Some of his works have been translated into other Indian languages like Kannada, Tamil language|Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi.

Early life & education[edit]

He was born in Rajahmundry at an American hospital^[2] in 1946. He grew up in a traditional Hinduism|Hindu family; his father is a teacher, and his mother is a classical singer. His formative years happened in Eluru, and Tadepalligudem grew up under the guidance of his grandparents. He completed his primary education in Eluru and later joined to pursue AMI^[3] in Bandar.

Personal life and academic career[edit]

After receiving a job in the Indian railways, he shifted to Hyderabad in 1965 at the age of 19 and worked in Kacheguda, Secunderabad, and Hyderabad railway stations. In 1969, he was married in Hyderabad, and the couple has three children. After reaching retirement age, he retired from his service.

Out of personal interest, he has participated in the Goa International Film Festival for the last 40 years.^[4]

His love for writing began during his school years; during higher schooling, he and his friend Kumaraswamy collaborated on a detective novel, which was shelved later.

After shifting to Hyderabad in 1965, at the age of 19, he wrote his first story, "Oka Kshanam", which got published in Krishna Patrika, as mentioned in a media interaction.^[5] He then started writing seriously and got his works published in Krishna Patrika, Andraprabha, Swathi, and other prime-time news editions over the past decades.

He draws his major influences from Gudipati Venkata Chalam, Malladi Ramakrishna Shastry, and Palamuri Padmaraju.

His subject themes are poverty, sex, relationships, social stigma, metropolitan nature, and human behaviour. few of his real-time incident inspirations are "Varadha" over floods in Machilipatnam, "Maro Pravaham" over homless roadside people at Hyderabad Railway Station, and "Anukshanam" over slum life in towns like Eluru.
