Vagurbem is a small village of 359 hectares in Ponda Tehsil in North Goa district, known and rated to have the best quality of life in India (based on the commission’s “12 Indicators”)[2] in the state of Goa, India.[3] The village is administrated by a sarpanch who is elected representative of the village by the local elections. Vagurbem depends on CURTI, the nearest town for all major economic activities.[4] The village has government-provided water facilities that include One tap, One Well supply, Two tanks, Two tubewells, and Two handpumps. The villagers also acquire water from some of the natural water sources - One river, Two canals and Two springs. Vagurbem is also surrounded by Two lakes. The population of the village depends on the source of drinking water during summer on Tap. Vagurbem's pin code is 403401[5], and village code is 00019600. The area of Vagurbem is segregated as 19.41 hectares irrigated area, 101.9 hectares unirrigated, the 110.72 hectare area under culturable waste (including gauchar and groves), and remaining 126.84 hectare area not available for cultivation.

The village is connected with a single bus service. Vagurbem has Two banks and Two credit societies for the regulation of economic activity. The village is also equipped with One recreational center.

The village has an uninterrupted 24 hours electric supply from a power grid.

Demographics[edit]

Vagurbem is a census village in the district of North Goa, Goa. The village has a total population of 527 and has total administration over 116 houses which are connected to supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage.

  • Vagurbem has 57 children, 31 boys and 26 girls.
  • Scheduled caste counts for 43 (8.16%) males constitute 23 (4.36%) of the population and females 20 (3.80%).

The workforce is 168 male, 72 female with 216 (90.0%) of all workers being employed full-time, this includes 160 males and 56 females. 24 males and 10 females are considered as the main cultivators with the help of 4 male. 24 people are reported to work for a marginal period of time in the year.

They depend on the agricultural markets (Mandi) of the nearby towns of CURTI and North Goa to sell coconuts and make their living.
