Wild Game is a Canadian television series produced by Connections Productions and features Chef Rich Francis as host for season one.
This 9 part docuseries takes the viewing audience on an adventure across Canada, visiting First Nation communities to learn how they hunt and prepare their traditional food. Rich participates in the hunt, samples the meals prepared in traditional ways and then gets to work. Using his culinary skills, Chef Francis prepares multi-course cuisine with locally sourced, in-season ingredients and medicine.
Filming for the series started 2019 on Kendall Island, 150 kilometers north of Inuvik, Northwest Territories. The series will be broadcast on Aboriginal Peoples Television Network|APTN in 2020.[1][2]
Chef Rich Francis who is of Haudenosaunee and Tetlit Gwich'in ancestry[3] and a competitor in theTop Chef Canada (season 4), travels across the country of Canada meeting other Indigenous peoples to learn the history of the food they eat. He learns from them their methods of hunting, fishing, harvesting, and preparation. Using traditional methods, Chef Francis then takes this knowledge of the food and turns it into cuisine one would find in a Michelin Guide#Stars|Michelin 3-star restaurant. He uses locally sourced ingredients that are in season. Keeping as true to the traditional method as possible, Rich serves up dishes that impress. Bonds are formed over these sessions and knowledge is shared.[4][5]
The first season of this 9 part docuseries will be broadcast in 2020 in Canada on Aboriginal Peoples Television Network|APTN.
