Yahaha is a UGC-based, low-coding game creation platform and game distribution platform founded in 2020. Created by ex-Unity veterans, Chris Zhu (CEO), Pengfei Zhang (COO) and Hao Min (CTO), Yahaha built a no-code “metaverse for games”, where people can come together in communities to build and play games combining virtual and real-world elements[1].

The platform has been gradually extended to support a variety of desktop, mobile platforms. YAHAHA is considered a platform that democratizes 3D content creation, helping creatives of all skill levels to make their own games, worlds and social spaces[2].

History and Development[edit]

Officially founded in 2020, Yahaha empowers both developers and players at all levels to build, publish, host, and operate multiplayer games. Additionally, it provides a million 3D asset libraries with a million sponsors and free servers for users to host multiplayer games. After Yahaha launched its Alpha last April, it now has more than 100,000 users[3].

Yahaha is a series-A start-up building a brand-new UGC platform for 3D interactive experiences. “Round 1” was led by 5Y Capital; “Round 2” was led by HillHouse, and “round 3” was led by Coatue. Early investors participated in subsequent rounds, and other backers included ZhenFund, Bertelsmann Asia Investments, BiliBili and Xiaomi. The funding values Yahaha in the range of $300 million to $500 million[1].

Nowadays, Yahaha already has a community of over 100,000 developers and 200,000[2] registered users for its platform. It is actively creating studio partnerships, accelerator programs, global events, game jams, and more[2].

3D Search Tool[edit]

Asset Ovi

Yahaha Studios announced the 3D search tool Asset Ovi in Feburary[4]. Using artificial intelligence (AI), Asset Ovi is the go-to platform to search for assets for any level of creators, from students and hobbyists to indie developers and 3D creation experts. [5]Asset Ovi cuts out middle-man, allowing users to search for assets across prominent 3D asset marketplaces including the Unity Asset Store, Sketchfab, and CGTrader, all on one platform.[4]

Events[edit]

Throughout the 2023 Global Game Jam, Yahaha hosted 110 people live at their site in Helsinki over the course of 48 hours, making it the country’s biggest hybrid-jam site. The jammers created 80 games, collaborating both on-site and through the online community, with some of the games created receiving as many as 34 thousand plays to date.[6]
