Yahoo is a web services provider located in the United States. In addition to its headquarters in Sunnyvale, California, the corporation is controlled by its namesake, Yahoo! Inc., which is owned 90 percent by investment funds managed by Apollo Global Management and 10 percent by Verizon Communications, as well as by other companies.

A online portal, the search engine Yahoo Search, and associated services, such as My Yahoo!, Yahoo Mail, Yahoo News, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, as well as its advertising network, Yahoo! Native, are all provided by Yahoo! Corporation.

Yahoo was founded in January 1994 by Jerry Yang and David Filo, and it was one of the early Internet pioneers of the 1990s, when the Internet was still in its infancy. Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web, formerly known as "Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web," was renamed "Yahoo!" and later became recognized as the Yahoo Directory in March 1994. The web domain "yahoo.com" first was registered on January 18, 1995.

Yahoo was founded on March 2, 1995, in California. Yahoo Search, a search engine feature that was developed in 1995, was the first of its kind. This provided users with the ability to search the Yahoo Directory. Yahoo quickly rose to prominence on the World Wide Web as the first popular online directory and search engine.
