The Zaanlands Lyceum is a public school in Zaandam, Netherlands.[1][2] The school has education for HAVO-, VWO- and Gymnasium-students.[3] The school is part of the OVO Zaanstad foundation. The school current school principal is M. van Dijk.[4]
Generally, the school uses a 40/80 minute timetable. Each lesson is either 40 or 80 minutes long. According to the school website, the lesson-hours are structured in the following way:
The school has an education program called “Béta-Plus” for students interested in following more advanced Physics classes. The subject is then called “Physics” in Dutch. Students that follow the standard program have a subject called “Science” in 1st year, and “Natuurkunde” in later school years, which translates into “Physics” in English. According to the school website, the difference between the “Science” and “Physics” is that “Science covers more general subjects (making shampoo and toothpaste, the cause for seasons) than Physics”.[5]
The current school building consists of four “wings”, namely north, south, west, and east. The north-wing is used for school part of the school staff. The east- and south-wing are used for ordinary school lessons, as well as offices for other school staff. The west wing has a multimedia library with a large amount of computers and printers, as well as a room for administration.[6] There is another building next to the main building, which was made because of the high amount of students.
