Zoot is a personal information manager and task manager designed for the Microsoft Windows operating system.[1][2][3] It is similar in function to the Lotus Agenda, Microsoft Outlook, and Ecco Pro information managers. [4][5] [6][7]
Zoot provides integrated E-Mail, Twitter, Feed, and Pocket clients, and incorporates GTD methodology in its approach to task management.[8] The program saves information in database records which are organized into folders which are displayed in a hierarchical folder tree. Every database record has a collection of database fields associated with it for data entry. Each database record has a single editable HTML document associated with it and may have files attached. Documents can be stored in HTML, RTF, or Plain Text format. HTML is the default document format. [9]
Zoot database files use a proprietary database format. Each database is stored in a single database file with a .zdb
filename extension. Zoot includes a variety of custom-built databases, each designed for a specific type of information. Users can create additional custom databases as well. Databases that ship with Zoot are Tasks, Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Journal, Mail, Web, Feeds, Twitter, Pocket, Files, Safe, and Help. Each database has a variety of built-in database fields for common data types and users can create additional database fields as needed.
Zoot provides keyboard, mouse and touch screen support (finger gestures). Voice commands may also be used to operate the software hands-free. To use voice commands the user must have Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition software from Nuance Communications installed.
