African Arthropods

This is an informal learning project for Alandmanson and anyone that wishes to join in. See Discuss: African Arthropods project.

The extant Arthropoda of Africa can be subdivided into four Subphyla (and about 15 Classes). This classification is that followed by iNaturalist (July 2022).

African Chelicerates - Including mites, harvestmen, solifuges, spiders, tailless whip scorpions, and sea spiders.

African Crustaceans - Including branchiopods, barnacles, crabs, lobsters, crayfish, shrimp, fish lice, tongue worms, and ostracods.

African Hexapods - Including springtails and insects.

African Myriapods - Including centipedes, millipedes, pauropodans, and symphylans.

  • Class Malacostraca — Malacostracans, including crabs, lobsters, crayfish, shrimp, krill, prawns, woodlice, amphipods, and mantis shrimp
