Metascience

From Wikiversity - Reading time: 1 min

Metascience is the scientific study of science, using the tools of research provided by science, on science itself. This field aims to address the following three fundamental questions:

  • What makes science?
  • Why study science?
  • How to study science?

Science is a tool that humans use to refine our perception of the world, using the insight gathered from the scientific method to solve problems.

The intent behind science is to reduce error and bias in research. If the goal is to refine our search for knowledge, refining how we search and research is part of the process.

Metascience studied through meta analysis on one or more past studies, research on previous theories, and the evolution of scientific practice.
