Data Networking describes the basics of data networking protocols and architectures in a relatively nonquantitative manner. Topics include layered architectures, the Internet, and OSI model; local and wide area networks and network topologies; transport protocols including TCP, UDP, and RTP; data link protocols, encoding, help, framing, PPP, and error control; statistical multiplexing; queuing; Little’s law; medium access protocols including Ethernet, token ring, FDDI, and 802.11; packet switching and datagrams, virtual circuits, bridges, and ATM switching; internetworking, interdomain and intradomain routing algorithms, naming and addressing, and IPv6; application protocols such as ftp and http; congestion and flow control in the Internet and ATM networks; quality of service issues; network security, cryptography protocols, protocols for security services, and firewalls; and network management protocols.[1][2]
