Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program

From Wikiversity - Reading time: 1 min

Emergency medical services (EMS) programs provide education for at least one of the four levels of EMS provider certification. These levels of certification include:

  • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
  • Emergency medical technician (EMT)
  • Advanced emergency medical technician (AEMT)
  • Paramedic

Education typically includes didactic instruction, psychomotor skills application, and clinical internship in both hospital and prehospital environments under the guidance of a licensed physician acting as the medical director. Curricula may vary due to state-specific modifications, but generally follow the National EMS Education Standards.
