The history of psychology can be seen as evolving through several "forces":

  1. First force: Psychoanalytic
  2. Second force: Behaviourism
  3. Third force: Humanistic
  4. Fourth force: Transpersonal (incl. family systems, feminist psychology, multicultural psychology, ecopsychology, and social constructivism and postmodernism)
  5. Fifth force: Social justice and advocacy
  6. Sixth force: Integrative, inclusive, and holistic[1]
