Sociology of mental illness

Sociology of mental illness is studied under the rubric of 'Sociology of Devience' or 'Sociological Social Psychology,' most notably known in the latter case as 'social psychology.' However, within sociology the notion of mental illness is not adopted as a legitimate explanation for problems in human behavior. Rather, 'problems in living' is used to explain behaviors that do no conform to communiy standards and of which are without reference to psychiatric diagnosis. The term problems in living was first used by Thomas Szasz then latter defined by Lloyd Gordon Ward and Robert Throop.
