War

From Wikiversity - Reading time: 1 min

My Lai massacre memorial site.
Guernica by Pablo Picasso was inspired by Picasso's horror at the Nazi German bombing of Guernica, Spain on April 26, 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. What roles do the reactions of artists and journalists play in our perception of war? Can a work of art express more than any single photograph?

Learning Projects

[edit | edit source]

The study of war is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary activity, since war can be examined through so many different prisms; history, politics, sociology, philosophy and law, to name just the most obvious.

As a result, there are a variety of learning projects on Wikiversity which pertain to the study of war.

  • The School of Strategic Studies degree course is currently the premier resource on Wikiversity for an all inclusive look at war over four years.
  • The War Seminar is a learning project devoted to discussions about the history of war as a cultural practice and current wars in the world.
  • The School of History has many topics relating to war, including Hitler's Germany, Imperialism and Revolutionary Russia.
  • For a look at war from an alternative direction, the Division of Peace Studies examines conflict resolution and peace in religion.
  • Bullshit in Seven Languages - a study of how propagandists justify wars
