Wind power is just one of many alternative, and renewable, sources of energy. Although wind turbines have some significant drawbacks, the technology has improved and new wind farms are being built around the world.
The goal is to build a small wind turbine (or use an existing prototype), quantify and measure power generation, and demonstrate the benefit of recent technological advances (e.g. wind lens).
The project conception has been informally described above. Students will start with the design phase of the project.
In fall 2013, students completed the design phase of this project. As part of the design phase, they created a working prototype of a small scale windmill. The design is documented in this report.
