East Carolina University (or ECU) is a North Carolina public university founded in 1907.[3] It is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.[4] It was ranked a fourth tier school in US News's "National Universities: Tier 4" list.[5]
The school was founded to alleviate the shortage of teachers in the eastern part of North Carolina.[3] In 1972 it became a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina system.[6]
ECU's football program has won 4 bowl games (while losing 4).[7]
