Victor "Vic" Herman, born on May 12, 1919, in Fall River, Massachusetts.^[1] Herman was a multifaceted, creative individual. He distinguished himself as an illustrator, cartoonist, television producer, puppeteer, painter, and comic artist, utilizing his diverse talents across various artistic disciplines.^[2] Herman was the creator of numerous commercial characters, including "Sad Shad" for Johnson & Johnson, "Elsie the Cow" for the Borden Company, "Johnny" for Philip Morris, and "Winnie the Wac" for the United States Navy. In addition to producing over 52 novels, he also had cartoons and articles published in many national magazines and newspapers.^[3]
