Four of the eight seats on the Bulloch County Board of Education were up for general election on May 24, 2016. There was no primary. District 3 challenger Stuart Tedders and District 8 incumbent Maurice Hill won without opposition. District 1 incumbent Cheri Wagner defeated challengers H. Lee Jones and Shalah Hendrix. Heather Mims defeated Josh Mattos in the race to replace Mike Herndon in District 7.^[1]

Bulloch County was home to 72,651 residents in 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau.^[2] The district was the 39th-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 9,991 students.^[3]

The median household income in Bulloch County was $35,642, compared to $53,482 for the state of Georgia. The poverty rate in Bulloch County was 31.4 percent, compared to 14.8 percent for the entire state.^[2]
