American History Homework 5 Zachary C. 10-16-08

1. (b)

Correct.

2. The Whig Party was against the increase in power of the executive branch, and opposed the annexing of Texas.

Superb.

3. The main cause for the Mexican War was the fact that America wanted to expand and in order to do that they needed control of Mexico. The end of the Mexican War came when Texas wrote a declaration of independence and a great number of Americans came to help defeat the Mexicans.

Good, except it's overstated to say that America wanted to "control" Mexico. America only wanted some land that Mexico claimed. Also, mention the time period. (Minus 1).

4. James K. Polk, because he defeated the Mexicans and annexed Texas.

Good, but you might say a bit more about his influence. (Minus 1).

5. People on both sides of the slavery issue practiced violence against the other, and there was eventually bloodshed.

Good.

6. The cartoonists view was that he/she was against the Nebraska-Kansas Act which would allow each new region to decide whether it would be a free or a slave state.

Mention who Steve is. Otherwise good. (Minus 1).

7. Yes (at a certain point), if the founding fathers would not have allowed slavery in the United States in the first place. After slavery was legalized in the U.S., war was inevitable, the issue divided two many Americans.

Good insight about founding fathers. Note: "too", not "two".
Good work. Score: 67/70.--Aschlafly 20:26, 18 October 2008 (EDT)
