Lipoma

Lipoma refers a mesenchymal neoplasm which may be single, multiple, superficial, and deep. It is distributed on the upper back, neck, shoulder and abdomen, proximal extremities, buttocks, and upper thigh. Rarely, the tumour also appears in the face, hands or feet. The tumour presents as a painless, soft, solitary, mobile mass mainly in adults aged forty to sixty years. Individuals who have lipomas are usually male, although lipomas are incidental among females as well. In regards to cytogenetics, fifty to eighty percent of individual with lipoma have cytogenetic abnormalities, namely translocations on chromosome 12q. The treatment of the neoplasm is simple surgical excision, with the recurrence rate being less than five percent.
