The Sinquefield Cup is annual invitation-only classical chess tournament typically held in August at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis, which is located in the so-called "Central West End" area.[1]
This tournament has been run annually since 2013 and attracts the top players in the world. It was on August 15–30, 2019, where the world champion Magnus Carlsen was defeated a rare upset in the speed chess round. Prize money has increased to $325,000, including $90,000 for 1st place and $60,000 for 2nd place.
In some years it has had the highest average chess rating of contestants than any other tournament.
