The Fourth Syrian War was fought between Ptolemy IV and Antiochus III in an extension of a rivalry that seemed to be passed on from ruler to ruler. Fought between 221 and 217 B.C., the war was inconclusive although a defeat of Antiochus by Ptolemy at Raphia in 217 after earlier victories left Palestine in Egyptian hands.
