Lamed (ל)

From Jewish Encyclopedia (1906)

Lamed (ל):

Twelfth letter of the Hebrew alphabet; on its form see Alphabet . The meaning of the name is uncertain. The letter is a liquid, pronounced like the English "l"; it interchanges with the other liquid consonants and semivowels, and sometimes passes into ר, ר, or מ. It is sometimes inserted after the first radical or added to the third to form quadriliterals from triliterals. As a numeral it has, in late usage, the value of 30.
