In Iran Christians suffer various forms of persecution. For example, they are discriminated against, detained, imprisoned or in extreme cases they are killed. Also Baha'i and Dervishes are equally affected.[1] Open Doors has listed Iran on the 8th rang.
The Islamic regime in Iran imposes Sharia law. Everybody in Iran is suppressed by Islamic law. Every Muslim who leaves Islam is stoned. Christians were watched closely by the "religious" police. If they are engaged in evangelism, they will be arrested. Former Muslims who converted to Christianity were called "mortad". Mortads who are converting again, were called "mortad harbi", who are "leading war against Islam". Under the rule of the ayatollahs, it is considered the obligation of all Muslims to kill the mortad harbi.[2]
In 2013 Saeed Abedini, a Christian pastor was arrested for eight years.[3] Almost 570,000 people have signed a petition in support of him.[4]
