Impact of redistricting[edit]

The Republican-controlled Legislature passed new maps in January 2012. The House and Senate maps were signed by Gov. Bill Haslam (R) on January 26 and February 9, 2012 respectively. The original House map planned to group four pairs of Democrats and two R/D pairs; ultimately, the seats of Sherry Jones (D), Eddie Bass (R), and Harry Tindell (D) were preserved. The number of majority-minority districts stands at 13. While Democrats sued over the Senate map, their threats to sue over the House map subsided.[3][4]
