Tartan

From Conservapedia

Tartan is a fabric design featuring vertical and horizontal stripes in a variety of colours and thicknesses to create recognizable patterns denoting clan or organizational membership. Tartan is especially associated with the wearing of the kilt.

In Scotland, tartan is also used in the design of hats, ties, soft furnishings, wallpaper and carpets.

The word 'tartan' is also used adjectivally to denote Scottishness. The Scottish National Party is also known as the 'Tartan Tories'. Supporters of the Scotland football team are called the 'Tartan Army'.
