The Canadian Citizenship Certificate is a small card that residents can use to prove that they are a Canadian citizen.

To receive a Canadian citizenship certificate:

  1. Apply for citizenship.
  2. Take the citizenship test, if you are between the ages of 18 and 54.
  3. Attend a citizenship ceremony, if you are 14 or older. Once they have taken the oath of citizenship at a ceremony, they become a Canadian citizen. New citizens receive their certificate of citizenship at the ceremony.[2]
