Equinox

Equinox is the time when the sun crosses the earth's equator, making night and day of approximately equal length all over the earth. Equinox occurs about March 21 (the spring or vernal equinox) and September 22 (autumnal equinox) each year.^[1]

The spring equinox of March 21 is traditionally regarded as the First Day of Spring in much of Europe. Until the eighteenth century, it was also the date on which New Year was celebrated in England and some other nations.
