Paralympic Sports

Summer and Winter Paralympic Games are held every two years, and the Paralympic sports are comprised of all of the sports that are played. Summer Paralympics featured 22 sports and 526 medal events as of 2016, while Winter Paralympics included 5 sports and disciplines and about 72 events as of 2016. The number and kind of events that are held at each Paralympic Games may vary from one to the next.

The Paralympic Games are a significant international multi-sport event for athletes who have physical or intellectual disability. They are held every four years in Rio de Janeiro. Athletes with mobility impairments, amputations, blindness, and cerebral palsy are included in this category. Paralympic sports are competitive athletic activities that are organised and sanctioned as part of the worldwide Paralympic movement. In addition to the International Paralympic Committee, several international sports federations oversee the organisation and administration of these sports.
