Doral, Florida

The United States state of Florida's Miami-Dade County is home to the city of Doral. It is one of the 34 municipalities that make up the county and is located 13 miles (21 km) from the centre of Miami and just 1 mile (1.6 km) from Miami International Airport. The city is home to more than 100,000 individuals who make Miami their place of employment. Doral encompasses an area of 39 square kilometres, or 15 square miles, and is bounded on the west by the Ronald Reagan Turnpike and the Florida Everglades, on the north by the Town of Medley, on the east by the Palmetto Expressway, and on the south by the Dolphin Expressway and the City of Sweetwater. It is one of the most important cities in the greater Miami metropolitan region, which has a population of 6,138,333 people in the year 2020.

Since the city's establishment, the type of government that has been in place in Doral is known as mayor-council management. The power to make policies and pass laws is delegated to a governing council that is composed of the mayor and four other councilmembers. The council, which is elected on a citywide basis, is in charge of drafting ordinances and resolutions, approving the yearly budget, and making appointments for the city manager, city clerk, and city attorney. These responsibilities fall within the council's jurisdiction. It is the duty of the city manager to ensure that the policies and ordinances passed by the council are carried out, to supervise the day-to-day operations of the government, and to designate the directors of the different departments.

Primarily as a result of its close proximity to the airport, Doral boasts an unusually large number of stores, financial institutions, and enterprises, particularly importers and exporters, relative to the size of the city. In 2008, Fortune Small Business and CNN Money placed Doral at number 51 on a list of the top 100 locations in the United States that offered the most desirable combination of business opportunities and lifestyle amenities. Other recent recognitions that speak to the blooming and success of the City of Doral include its selection as a finalist for the 2019 All-America City Award and its designation by Money magazine as one of the Best Places to Live in 2018. Both of these honours were awarded in 2018.

According to the data provided by the United States Census Bureau, the total land area of the city is 13.6 square miles (35 km2). It has a total land area of 13.2 square miles (34 km2), however only 0.5 square miles (1.3 km2) of it is covered in water (3.52%).

The Koppen climate classification identifies Doral as having a tropical monsoon climate (Am) that is next to a tropical savanna climate (Aw).

The summers in Doral are very hot and humid, with the heat index often going beyond 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius). The bulk of Doral's annual precipitation falls throughout the months of May through October, which corresponds to the city's rainy season. The winters are brief, dry, and mild, with occasional temperature drops caused by the passage of cold fronts.
