Windows Essentials (formerly known as Windows Live Essentials and Windows Live Installer) is a set of free Microsoft programs. First released on August 25, 2006, the set consists of Windows Live Mail, an email program, Photo Gallery, an image viewer, Movie Maker, a movie making app, Windows Live Writer, OneDrive, Family Safety, and, formerly, Windows Live Messengerl, an instant messaging client discontinued since 2013. Family Safety is only for Windows 7.[1] Made to perfectly blend together, as well as with Microsoft web-based services,[2][3] Windows Essentials programs are compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 SP2, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, and formerly Windows XP and Windows Vista.[1]
