Olivia F.

1. In my opinion, the 2008 election is most similar to the election of 1828 because Jackson and Obama both won by a landslide.

Good.

2. I believe that imperialism is not such a great idea. Maybe if it was a Christian country influencing another country but besides that, most countries would not be looking out for the interests of the smaller countries; they would only be trying to look for ways to improve their own well-being at the cost of the other country.

Excellent point.

3. I believe that progressive movement is a good idea as long as it is not taken too far, which is the same for anything really.

Good again.

4. I believe that this cartoon is depicting William McKinley prior to the Spanish-American War, while the whole country was watching him to see whether or not he would declare war on Spain.

Not quite. See model answers. (Minus 1).

H1. I do not agree with how the United States finally ended the fighting in the Philippines but obviously, something had to be done. The fighting had been going on for several years now and hundreds of lives had been lost, but that does not justify ruthlessly killing others.

Good analysis.

H2. I believe that the role of the newspapers in the recent election was similar to the “yellow journalism” back in the 1890s since they clearly stated what they wanted to happen; the newspapers today wanted Obama to win and the newspapers back then wanted to free Cuba.

Excellent.
Well done! Score: 59/60.--Aschlafly 21:00, 15 November 2008 (EST)
