Ballot Initiatives 2022

Ballot initiatives 2022 total 137 measures, of which 129 are on ballots on Election Day in November.^[1] More than $1 billion was spent campaigning for or against these ballot initiatives.

Significant among these are the:

• abortion ballot initiatives
• cannabis ballot initiatives
• ballot initiatives to increase to 60% the vote needed for passage
• gambling ballot initiatives
• immigration-related ballot measures, such as ending in-state tuition (Arizona) or voting rights (Ohio) for illegal aliens
• gun control-related ballot initiatives, pro (Oregon) and con (Iowa)
• automatic state Con Con initiatives to consider convening a new state constitutional convention, due to the passing of a certain time period (3 states)

Colorado has 11 initiatives and Alabama has 10. Overall, including pre-Election Day initiatives held earlier in 2022 and Louisiana's held in December, a total of 37 states have at least one ballot initiative in 2022. Many of the pending initiatives are spending related, such as authorizing the issuance of new bonds for a particular purpose or granting authority to some governmental entity to spend money on something.
