1. Spanish, English, French

Correct.

2. Columbus worked really hard from an early age toward his goal of becoming a master navigator and mariner. Even though it was very difficult to get the financial support; he persisted and showed great fortitude to fulfill his dream of spreading Christianity to new civilizations.

Excellent. The ";" should be a comma.

3. Early settlements probably failed because there was not a good plan in place, they just expected everything to work. They went there and expected gold and food, some weren’t prepared to work, and some might not have known what to do. There was probably a lack of cooperation. other settlements disappeared. Also, there was no system. The settlements didn’t know about America, so they couldn't survive, such as during winter or other harsh climates.

Excellent. The "." before "other settlements" should be an "and".

4. Religious segregation was the motivation for the first settlements in the Massachusetts area. The separatist, also known as the Pilgrims, wanted to separate from the Church of England have nothing to do with people outside the church. The Puritans wanted to purify the church. Also, the Pilgrims were more tolerant than the Church of England, and never prosecuted for witchcraft. The Puritans prosecuted and executed for witchcraft, and were intolerant.

Excellent.

5. William Penn was not only the founder of Pennsylvania; he was the hero of democracy and religious freedom. He stood up to England, even after being arrested. He was known for the peace he created with the Indians. He planned and developed Philadelphia. He also encouraged unity among the English colonies.

Superb.

6. Charter colony- self governed colonies granted a charter by the king: Conneticut and Rhode Island Royal colony- colonies that were owned by the king. Virginia became a royal colony after the king took it back. Proprietary Colony- colonies, such as Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, and Delaware, were basically land grants from the British government. Individuals were awarded huge tracts of land that they would then supervise and govern, usually in return for political or financial favors. These colonial governors reported directly to the king. Join stock Colony- colonies funded by investors through a joint stock company; a joint-stock company is based on many individuals contributing small amounts of money towards a whole, in the hopes that their small investment will produce large profits: Virginia and Massachusets Bay

Good. Misspelled Massachusetts.

7. One debate question we talked about was whether or not the Puritans had the right to expel and kill people based on their religious differences. One view is that the Puritans came to America in order to obtain their own religious community, and they warned the people to stay away or else they would be killed. However, on the other hand, no man has the right to kill people just for intruding, even if they were warned.

Superb, but what is your view? Always include your view. (Minus 1).

H2: The Massachusetts Bay Company, settling in Boston in 1629, was led by John Winthrop. He helped finance the expedition; his money kept many settlers alive the first year. Within a few short years, this industrious and hearty group of pioneers had established a successful and thriving colony in the New World.

Good.

H4: Mercantilism- economic system of the major trading nations based on the premise that national wealth and power were best served by the colonies sending their raw materials to England, then selling the finished products to other countries as well as the colonies. This increased exports and built up the wealth of the mother country. I think the system profited the mother country at the expense of the colonies, who might have been forced to sell their raw materials cheap to England, and then also had to buy the finished product.

Well done!

H5: Someone might want to take credit of the discovery of North America from Christopher Columbus to undermine his mission of Christian evangelization; to take away from the Christian faith. They might go about this by trying to give credit for the discovery of America to someone else, such as the Vikings. Even if the Vikings were the ones to first discover America, they didn’t try to settle there or spread news of it. If Columbus hadn’t found America, Europe might not have found out about America for a long while, and America would not be what is today.

Superb.
Terrific start! Score: 99/100.--Aschlafly 20:23, 11 September 2008 (EDT)
