The Indiana Lieutenant Governor Becoming Governor, Amendment 1, also known as Amendment 1, was on the ballot in Indiana on November 7, 1978, as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was approved. The amendment proposed that the state constitution be amended to clarify that the lieutenant governor becomes governor in the event of the death, resignation or removal of the governor and to add certain new provisions concerning vacancies and disabilities in the office of the governor and the lieutenant governor.[1]
