Nathanael H. September 17, 2008 American History Homework Assignment 2

1. The three most important causes of the American Revolution were the colonists were accustomed to independence, taxes hit at a bad time, and one-third of the colonists were not even English.

Excellent.

2. The colonists used the phrase, “No taxation without representation,” because they had no in the laws that were made over in England.

Good, but I think you meant to include "say".

3. The Boston tea party occurred on December 16, 1773. Led by Samuel Adams, a group of colonists dressed up looking like Indians. They boarded all of the tea ships in the harbor and threw the tea into the sea.

Good.

4. The only one who could be blamed in this situation is the devil. Nothing else would really have made so many people go crazy.

Interesting. You might be right.

5. True. Massachusetts was strictly a puritan colony. They became the biggest trouble for England.

Excellent.

6. Looking at the little details about George Washington, he appears to look as great as most believe. The reason he was great was because he was the man who stepped up to the plate to lead the colonies to freedom. If it wasn’t for him, we might still be under English rule. Through all the hardships that congress gave him, he still kept on fighting. His leadership skills were unmatched. He was also the first general in command of the United States Army, and he was the first president.

Superb.

7. This cartoon is telling all of the colonies not listed on a piece of snake, to unite with the rest of the colonies in order to defeat England. It’s like the Army motto, “One for all, all for one.”

Right, but need an estimated time period. (Minus 1).

8. H1. It appears as though New Hampshire ascended up the North East Coast. The Colonies had some land in Canada.

Think so? I didn't realize that, but you seem to be right!

9. H5. England should not have been able to impose direct taxes on the colonies. I believe it is fair to say that England did not have the right to place any form of tax on the colonies.

When the pilgrims and other religious groups started to go over to America, England did not care about America. They just let people go over.
They did not care about the land or anything America it had to offer. Years later, England starts to realize that some wealth could be made in the
America. Settlers in America had become used to the freedom. They dealt with the establishment of royal colonies.
England did not initially control the American Colonies. Then when they saw wealth, they started taking control. Britain assumed all along that
everything in the colonies belonged to them. They acted like a child who let his brother have a toy, but then wanted it back.
Excellent analysis.

10. H3. (The cause of the “witching” of the girls in Salem.)

Girls in Salem simply became posed by a demon. It happened before in Bible times, so why could it not happen today. Demons do exist in the
spirit world.
Interesting approach! A bit repetitive with your answer to #4, however. (Minus 1).
